As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mechanical systems and equipment used in the production and manufacturing of building materials. This role involves ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of machinery while contributing to process optimization and innovation. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and quality assurance, to support continuous improvement initiatives.
What you’ll be doing:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment to minimize downtime.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues in production lines and machinery.
- Analyze production processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Implement innovative solutions to enhance equipment performance and reduce energy consumption.
- Plan routine maintenance of plant equipment and machinery.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to ensure the timely delivery of materials and services.
- Function as a project development member to maintain new equipment.
- Work with reliability engineers to extend the equipment life cycle.
- Manage budget for current and future equipment upgrades and replacements.
- Check work in progress and upon completion to ensure it meets the specification.
- Estimate the cost of the equipment system and structure repair or replacement.
- Support the ongoing preventative maintenance program for vehicles.
- Please ensure that all mechanical systems comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate potential hazards.
- Work closely with production teams to understand operational needs and provide technical support.
What we’d love for you to have:
We are interested in you as a person: your attitude, behaviors, and values. As long as you have the willingness to learn anything you need for the role that you don’t already have, we’d love to speak to you. If you have a qualification and experience in the following areas is an added advantage:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in manufacturing or construction materials.
- Experience in the building materials industry or similar manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient and sustainable engineering practices.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automation.
- Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanics and electromechanical systems.
- Proficiency in computer software programs.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
